Sophie Russell | National Youth Justice Advocacy and Research Coordinator

Sophie has over a decade of experience in research, advocacy, and policy roles across academic and community-sector settings, focusing on the intersections of criminalisation, punishment, post-release reintegration, and the broader social impacts of carceral systems. She has worked as a Research Associate at the UNSW Faculty of Law and Justice, Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research, and the Community Restorative Centre, the lead community-sector provider of post-release support in NSW.  She recently completed a PhD in Law at UTS, examining the experiences of punishment and reintegration of formerly imprisoned people and their families in NSW. Sophie currently works part time for the Justice Reform Initiative and lives and works on unceded Bundjalung Land.
